Tinfree Steel (TFS / ECCS)

✓ In stock across regional warehouses

Tinfree Steel (TFS), classified technically as Electrolytic Chromium Coated Steel (ECCS), is produced by cathode-plating a cold reduced steel substrate in a chromic acid bath to form a composite surface film of metallic chromium overlaid with hydrated chromium oxide. It offers high lacquer adhesion, thermal resistance up to 400°C, and resistance to sulfide staining, making it a cost-effective alternative to tinplate for specific packaging applications. Supplied in tempers T2 through T5 and DR7 to DR9 conforming to IS 12591 and ASTM A657, with total chromium coatings of 50–140 mg/m² and thicknesses from 0.14 mm to 0.38 mm. Sourced from specialized mills including TCIL (Tata Steel), Nippon Steel, and JFE Steel.
