Heavy Melting Steel 1/2 (HMS 1/2)

✓ In stock across regional warehouses

Heavy Melting Steel (HMS 1 / HMS 2) is a standardized, high-density recyclable ferrous scrap blend consisting of prepared obsolete and prompt industrial wrought iron and steel. Sourced from structural demolitions, machinery frames, heavy beams, plate off-cuts, automotive chassis, and commercial pipes, the material is processed using high-tonnage hydraulic shearing, gas torching, and magnetic sorting. Conforming to internationally recognized ISRI specifications (ISRI 200 through 206), the blend is typically supplied in standard trade ratios (such as 80:20 or 70:30 HMS 1 to HMS 2). HMS 1 components feature a thickness of 6 mm (1/4 inch) and above, while HMS 2 includes thicknesses between 3 mm and 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4 inch). All scrap is prepared to furnace-charging dimensions—typically up to 1.5×0.5″ meters”—ensuring high bulk density, minimal non-metallic impurities (<1.5%), and low levels of residual tramp elements (such as copper, tin, and chromium).
